About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The Yuca Pop Bites company was founded by ten 3rd year entrepreneurship students from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Santa Maria Bulacan Campus, in the school year 2024-2025.
The word "Yuca" in Yuca Pop Bites comes from the Spanish and Latin words that mean cassava, tapioca, and manioc.
Did You Know?
Cassava offers a range of benefits, although it's crucial to remember that these benefits are contingent upon proper processing to eliminate or significantly reduce cyanide content. Improperly prepared cassava can be toxic.
Nutritional Benefits:
-
Energy Source: Cassava's high carbohydrate content provides a readily available source of energy, making it an important staple food in many parts of the world. This is particularly beneficial in regions with limited dietary diversity.
-
Dietary Fiber: Cassava contains dietary fiber, which aids digestion, promotes regularity, and contributes to feelings of fullness, potentially assisting in weight management.
-
Vitamins and Minerals (varies by variety): Depending on the variety and growing conditions, cassava can provide small amounts of various vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium, and manganese. However, it's not a significant source of these nutrients compared to other foods.
-
Low Glycemic Index (some varieties): Some cassava varieties have a relatively low glycemic index (GI), meaning they cause a slower and more gradual rise in blood sugar levels compared to high-GI foods. This can be beneficial for people with diabetes or those seeking to manage their blood sugar.
Other Benefits:
-
Food Security: Cassava's drought tolerance and relatively low input requirements make it a crucial crop for food security in many developing countries, particularly in regions prone to drought or other environmental stresses. It provides a reliable source of calories even in challenging conditions.
-
Economic Importance: Cassava cultivation plays a vital role in the economies of many countries, providing livelihoods for farmers and supporting various industries that process cassava into different products.
-
Industrial Applications: Cassava starch is used in a wide range of industrial applications, including adhesives, textiles, papermaking, and biofuel production, contributing to economic development.

Our Story
We are third-year Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship students (SY: 2024-2025) at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Santa Maria Campus. One of our major subjects is Agripreneurship, which combines agriculture and entrepreneurship. This means we don't just focus on innovating products; we also learn how to cultivate the ingredients ourselves. Therefore, Yuca Pop Bites Co. has planted cassava, which you can see at our agri-hub on the PUP Santa Maria campus.
This course teaches us not to solely rely on farmers for our supplies, but to learn how to cultivate our own ingredients. Farmers are dwindling in number, especially as younger generations like ours aren't inclined towards farming. Studying Agripreneurship is not just for us; it's crucial for all Filipino youth because agriculture is a primary sector of our economy. Therefore, we must study and develop our agriculture to improve our national economy.
“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress,
and working together is success.”
